The time change is in full swing. I'm sitting here on my front porch with ruby, my laptop, and it's dark. It's 6:45 and it's dark. So dark, we just saw a shooting star. That's dark.
What's the real purpose of Daylight Savings Time anyway? I guess I could Google it. I'll be right back.....
Okay, so yeah.
WAY more info than I needed over at
Wikipedia. In a nutshell, it seems DST was invented to save electricity back in the early 20
th century. Recent studies have shown it makes no difference. Lots of studies show switching the time back and forth is a major pain, and DST was recently extended (started this year). So why switch back to standard time?
I guess it was nice to see a shooting star on my front porch at 6:45. My son was still awake, although I'm not sure he noticed it, but he does get to enjoy the stars tonight. Usually it's still daylight when he goes to bed (which reminds me of how much fun it is to switch back to DST and trying to explain why he has to go to bed when the sun it still way up in the sky).
So is it just me, or is this whole thing a little confusing? Referring to the time as "old time" or "new time" since it's all so new. Will it be darker in the morning or lighter? I guess lighter, huh? It doesn't
really matter since we have to wake up at the crack of dawn anyway.....
I'm tired. Yes, it's taken me 3 hours to write this post, and I guess it's really 10:56 now, old time. I'm so busy with work, and my husband just left to go back to Houston, so I've had some distractions. I think I'll have a
Reese's Peanut Butter cup and head to bed. Good-no-more-daylight-savings-time-night :)
